Trans friendly family doctors in Central CT? Hey I'm moving back to Central CT next month from Maine and I have a really wonderful doctor here who I hate leaving so I...

I don't know any offhand, but its probably worth giving the Hartford Gay & Lesbian Health Collective a call, they can probably help you out. [Information & Referrals - Hartford Gay & Lesbian Health Collective (hglhc.org)](https://www.hglhc.org/hglhc-content/our-causes/referrals-database)

I do the Planned Parenthood in Hartford -- they understand the basics of trans health care and don't make a fuss about the matter (Informed Consent and all that) -- with the caveat that they're pretty busy so if you want more specialized care you have to be on their case a bit

I asked 1 of my friends who has experience seeking out doctors with these requirements "Middlesex Family Practice. Middlesex is training all their staff now on trans-friendly health (some are farther along than others, but I've heard the Middletown office is good).Middlesex also recently launched a 16+ gender clinic that's getting good reviews and offers hormone management. They should check out the Pride Center in New Haven, too, if they're looking for social events, community, and resource recommendations."

I'm in East Connecticut, but Julie Zito and Allison Kilmer (both in Norwich) have both been good about hormones and trans healthcare. And depending on what parts you need taken care of, I also know a fantastic gyno who specializes in trans men in Providence. I've found it worth the drive.

Hospital of Central Connecticut has some really professional and passionate doctors. I go to a handful of different specialists from their hospital and they are the nicest people ive met. Im not trans or LGBT but I struggle a lot with my mental health and feel my own stigma. Going to THOCC, they always ask me how I'm doing and they seem genuinely excited for me when im doing well. They are also really empathetic when im not doing well. I have never felt uncomfortable or uncared for while visiting their offices.
flyingpurplefux replied:
Not super close to where you will be unfortunately but all I know is Anchor Health Initiative in New Haven. Good luck my friend
AugustusPompeianus replied:
Trans acceptance is pretty high here in CT. I hope you find a gender-affirming physician.
simplsurvival replied:
Can you ask your current doctor for recommendations? Some doctors know of other similar practices. At least my orthodontist did
CandyappleWinter replied:
I go to [https://anchorhealthinitiative.org/](https://anchorhealthinitiative.org/) they exclusively have LGBTQ staff. My only complaint is they never got my insurance correct no matter how many times I showed them my card. Plus sometimes the staff can be snotty. At least with me on a few occasions.
Recommendations for pediatricians for a newborn. Also when does everyone recommend I call the pediatrician? I'm 27 weeks tomorrow.
Becky E. replied:
Kim we use Pioneer Valley. Dr. Hoberman. I personally love their office as that where I went as a kid. There's a lot of good doctors in Enfield now. I remember interviewing a few. My biggest questions were hours of operation, on call coverage (through their office or a doc on call service), where they had rights to practice (hospitals), and emergency clinics. Speaking for them they have urgent care on Saturdays and Sundays which is awesome because every kid gets sick on the weekend.:)
Tina B. replied:
Dr Terry Eccles, she is in Stafford, but absolutely amazing. She takes state insurance too. You can schedule a " house call" appointments with her as well.
Cheryl B. replied:

Stephany M. replied:
Dr Villa and Dr Elbaum. BEST HANDS DOWN. ... my daughter was born with holes in her heart and some neurological problems, they both looked at her, and ordered tests before I could get into see a neurologist at CCMC .... that was crucial time that was not wasted. I moved out of town and still take my kids there, an hour away.
Kimberly K. replied:
Dr Hoberman at pioneer valley
Sara B. replied:
Dr. Segool at Pioneer Valley Pediatrics. I was high risk during my pregnancy and my daughter had to stay in NICU for 2 weeks. When we went for our 1 st appointment he had not only read my daughter's records he had read mine as well. Love him. He was my doctor as a child too. Dr. Nina and Dr. Hobberman are very nice as well but they did misdiagnose my daughter's Chicken Pox a few weeks ago but a trip to the ER the following night fixed that and the doctor's office called to apologize since it's something rarely seen nowadays and she had an uncharacteristic case initially. They are amazing, nurses are awesome, open 7 days a week and as soon as the office closes there is nurses on call through answering service. I've never waited more than 10 minutes for a call back.

Unfortunately, she is now only in the Longmeadow office, and my son and I made the difficult decision to stay with her instead of choosing a new primary care. We have dealt with most of the doctors over the years, and they are wonderful!! Good luck in your search- and Congratulations on your pregnancy!

Emily M. replied:
I loved Tascono in Simsbury but found it annoying to drive there when we could drive right down the street. EG family practice is usually quick and good at getting u in and I really love Dr. Elizabeth Freedman. She is extremely thorough and great at following up with u.
Kelly Z. replied:
East Granby Family Practice
Amanda T. replied:
I agree with Emily Anne MacMillan, I first went to Tascono and Dick, they were good but the drive was a pain and they were always behind schedule leaving me waiting and wasting a lot of time. East Granby Family Practice has been very convenient for us. I see Dr. Freedman and the kids see Dr. Ewald. We love them both and have heard great things about the other doctors there as well.

Ok, Hartford-area friends: I am in the market for a new pediatrician, after 3 uncomfortable years with a practice that doesn't really encourage any kind of homeopathic...
Kate T. replied:
Robert Toscano in Simsbury - he's fantastic.
Carrie W. replied:
I was just about to recommend Steven Craig (he's with Somerset Pediatrics) and see that someone else already has! He's very respectful to personal choices and has never "pushed" anything...and is, in fact, a supporter of natural approaches/not 'overmedicating' our kids." I think he's wonderful! My kids love him.
Kevin S. replied:
We've been taking HUGH to Newigton Pediatrics right by the high school note border of Elmwood/West Hartford. They have been fabulous...in home care, can call 24 hrs a day.:)
