Go to direct garden.com and you can do a search for your zone area and can select the exact type plants you want, a perennial about 2 ft tall and you can also specify a particular color and it will show you all the types that fit that category and description of it. If it's poisonous or deer resistance etc. Them you can know what to look for when u go to your local nursery.

Going thru the same, Di. We're going to rip out most of our bushes too. Dont know what to replace them with yet. But like the direct garden.com suggestion!
