I have done courses with compass education, they are accredited, and im about to do a behaviour course with them to. Have a look, it took me three months to decide as so many out there. http://www.compass-education.co.uk/
Kate H. replied:
Hi Emily, I am doing the Diploma course through Compass - and while its OK I think the main thing is read, read, read - I'm reading things that are really interesting to me but they aren't fitting in with the course. It may be an idea to have a look at the KCAI scheme - it costs about £72 to sign up as a student but from what I understand they give you a sort of roadmap of the things relevant to becoming an accredited instructor or for anyone wanting to work with dogs. They have affiliated education providers but I believe it is more about evidence so keep an note of everything you read / every course you attend / every practical you do in a portfolio. If you lie practical hands on I would look at IMDT, they do a lot of courses (mainly down South) and are highly spoken of and I understand they are launching some online courses soon. I'm personally also doing quite a few seminars eg. Ian Dunbar, John Rogerosn. Which as just reminded me John Rogerosn has a distance learning course that looks quite good. I'll stop waffling now:0)

Sounds great Emily. I think theThink Dog course by Sarah Whitehead or COAPE foundation courses would give you a good founding of theory. Just in case, If you do want COAPE, they are just taking bookings for the Feb start. Good luck:-)
Richard J. replied:
Emily . I chose the COAPE course because 1. Level 1 is pure theory and I dont have a dog to practice with currently, 2. COAPE is a KC PEP and has accreditation, 3. One is not overloaded and this can fit in if you are working full time. The requirement i s a 1000 word topic each month for 9 months. Next course is Feb and applications close end of Jan. The only downside at Level 1 is there is NO access to the Resource Centre or the Forum. I actually started a FB group for this reason - link below. Unfortunately I am the only student on the current course so may see you there!!
Nightmare trying to find the right courses and being confident that your money is well spent. This is one of the bonuses of this group - recommendation is always useful. I would agree with recommendations of correspondence courses for Compass, COAPE an d Sarah Whitehead. AlthoughDay Care is still a relatively new 'industry' in the UK, there will be courses out there specifically for that, I'm sure, but understanding dog body language, behaviour and training is essential a well. You may not want to run classes, or become a behaviourist, but it is also useful knowledge when dealing with groups of dogs, keeping them happy and safe and understanding their needs. My top tip when looking for a course is to decide what your ethos is in regard to dogs - hopefully positive, reward based training, rather than the out-dated 'dominance' based methods - and check that the learning providers share your views (certainly the three I mentioned are bang up to date). Find out who is providing the courses, and check out any information you can find on them. Websites are often quite general, so if things are not clear e-mail them and ask them specific questions. Good luck:-)
www.britishcollegeofcaninestudies.com do lots of different things day care, dog walking, to behaviour diplomas. I am studying with them. Can't wait to finish my diploma and go for a week working in a rescue centre. The course I am doing is excellent too.

My little boy started at Sunny Days pre school, Loudwater in Dec. He was 2 in November but still has no speech so I was apprehensive sending him. It's from 9 am- 12 pm so not too long. It's small so not over whelming and lovely and friendly. My son always has the biggest smile and is so chatty when I pick him up. I thoroughly recommend. It might be a bit far out of town but it is fab.
