Any recommendations on how to plan a trip to Europe? I'm super overwhelmed and the one travel agent we talked to basically wants us to do all the planning...

Jenessa plans all of trips with Rick Steves Guidebooks. We buy a book ahead of time and plan our hotels and sights based on his recommendations. Haven't gone wrong with him. Of course we always cross reference his attraction suggestions with Trip Advisor and other travel sites. For instance the "east side gallery" in Berlin wasn't even mentioned in Rick Steves and it was one of our favorite sites there.
Can anyone tell me about how a travel agent works? Is it more expensive? Do we pay for the trip and their services? Anyone an agent on here?

We used HR Travel a few years ago and they took care of everything for us

I just booked my honeymoon through Carolyn Orf and she was awesome! She gets paid by resorts, so there is not an extra fee for the customer. She worked with our budget and dealt with all my annoying questions all with a smile. smile emoticon
Hi Stephanie, I am a travel agent, I will tell you exactly what you want to know (and feel free to message me if you have further questions). So...A travel agent has access to every resource on the planet regarding travel. We know what companies are re putable and which are a bit too risky to use. The tour company/cruise line/hotel/car etc... pays us a comission. It is exactly the same price to the traveler if they booked it themselves...which is great...IF you know what you are doing. (The more complex your itinerary is, its better to get an agent involved) The only time an agent charges, is if they are booking regular airline tickets for you. The airlines stopped paying comission about 15 years ago. This would be called a service fee, and should not be any more than $25 to $35 per ticket. Now...back to the resources we have...we go to trade shows and get regular email alerts from all of these companies letting us know about their products and what is on sale and such.

Does anyone know of a good international travel agent? My wife is going to Italy this summer and seeking a travel agent with extensive knowledge of Italy.

Try Leonardo da Vinci. Not sure if he's a good travel agent but I think he's a heck of a painter. Safe travels.
