Hands down my best experience/relationship remodeling my house was Neil at [Performance Hardwoods](http://www.judysbook.com/Performance-Hardwood-Floors-Flooring-Contractors-houston-tx-r30038411.htm). His crew did an amazing job, and the guy has an encyclopedic knowledge of the types of floors in Houston. I gave him my address, and he said, "so you're over there, house probably built in the early 50's, I'll bet you have red oak," and he was absolutely right. He helped me restore the natural beauty of the wood, and pick a stain that complimented it. I can't praise the experience highly enough. note: I see on that link there are some horrible reviews. For the life of me I can't imagine what was going on in those cases. I had nothing but transparent personal interactions and felt like I paid a fair price.
