Eilidh M. replied:
I asked about biocaps a while ago and had no response. I can't use a rug but stable quite a bit and use neem. Also about to start using turmeric; have a look at tbe Turmeric Users Group on Facebook, seems to be quite a movement and i'll try anything to help the dreaded itch.

The best calmer I have tried is formulated by Hack Up - Bespoke Equine Supplements - for each individual horse.. They do each horse as an individual. Worked wonders for my TB who used to shake in terror at nothing on hacks. http://www.hackup.co.uk

Where are you based? There is a lovely lady call Isobell Hogton www.horselistenerscotland.co.uk who is amazing to watch as she works! I've seen her 'listen' to many horses and known many people who use her. Some of the stuff she tells you, you know it's true and there's no way she can make it up. She is also very good with calming techniques an knows what suits each individual horse and owner xx

Have you tried magnesium oxide? Just a thought for extremely tense/ spooky horses - or Roger at Trinity Consultants is extremely knowledgeable and can give bespoke remedies. I can only read the last few comments, so apologies if this has also been mentioned. - good luck x

Join the Turmeric User Group - https://www.facebook.com/groups/415313751866609/ - a lot of people in this group have said that Liverpool cream is really harsh and painful. Read through the notes, ask lots of questions, look at the photos, the results are amazing. Everyone is willing to give advice, one of the admin people is a vet/was a vet. I am using turmeric for my arthritic Shetland and so far the results are really good. Turmeric/freshly ground black pepper/oil can be fed and applied topically at the same time.

Marcia Breed -is this what you used?
Marjorie G. replied:
This is a cancer, please do not play with creams, potions, lotions - go with vet treatment which will be considered by some of the best vets in the country. Dr Knottenbelt will tell you of lots of scary stories of what can happen when people DIY sarcoid treatment, for your pony's welfare, only do what the vets advise and get specialist advice if your vet is not so knowledgeable on equine things.
Ailsa M. replied:
Dr K it is, I do think some of the other treatments work, but from the HUGE amount I have read on sarcoids this week it seems that they are a pretty random phenomenon, and different things seem to suit different ponies/sarcoids. This one is in a bad spot and its bothering the pony as he is rubbing it a lot. Id rather he was head shy around the vet and his nasty cream, and not me with my various potions! Thanks all for the advice. Good bye savings!
Jacqueline C. replied:
Yes please go with your vets advice. I've seen Dr Ks pics of what DIY and shop bought remedies can do. Shocking what these well known brands can do:( good luck:-)
Ailsa M. replied:
I know Im looking at a huge bill (sleepless nights stuff), but Im worried that if I try something else the vet wont do the Liverpool cream for me. Dr Ks Liverpool website says that flies can spread the sarcoid, so Im keen to see it gone by the summer. I think if it was somewhere else I would be more inclined to try the other stuff but its in such a sensitive place. There seems to be no clear answer on what the best thing to do is, I wish someone would do some more research!
Kimberley B. replied:
I think there is a world class expert in sarcoids at Glasgow Weipers Centre, moved up from Liverpool relatively recently. Might be worth getting in touch, they're really helpful down there xx

Read the small print with E&L - I was going to go with them some yrs ago but wouldn't have been covered as there were more than 5 horses on the yard; however it may have changed. From personal experience I would avoid Am Trust. I have always found NFU to be the most expensive when getting quotes but I have heard nothing but praise about them from people who insure with them.
