Dr. John Strief in Coralville is very, very good. He is the best dentist I have ever been to. But he isn't inexpensive. Insurance would take care of most of it though.
Tiffany G. replied:
I personally loved Julia Meyer Stanley in Cedar Rapids, I know it's not iowa city but her and her staff are worth the drive!
Cindy C. replied:
Dr. Tu is a friend of mine. Very good. Also Dr. John Strief is my best friends dad. Very good as well.
Looking for a dentist New in town and looking for a dentist. Please advise, thank you

Start with whatever insurance you have and see who takes it. If you can, I'd recommend the UI faculty clinic. They have all the specialties under one roof and all the latest equipment for a price that is often less than private practice.

Call up CoralWestDental its between north liberty and coralville on 965. Best in the area and their insurance person can walk you through exactly what you have and don't have.

Hawkeye Family Dental on 1 st Ave in Iowa City is great.
Ah...the Highlights magazines and old Cometeer yearbooks in the waiting room, the cardboard "Treasure Chest" full of prizes, Ray Conniff singers-type music playing in the background and "open a little wider, Sis." RIP, Dr. Blackman!
Rhonda C. replied:
He was such a sweet man. I've never had anxiety about going to dentists, probably because of him. Apparently the quality of his work was also superior. I still have some fillings he did when I was a teenager, and a couple of my dentists in recent years commented on the high quality of his work. Godspeed Doc.
Pat W. replied:
He was a great dentist- the best one in West Liberty. sympathy to Blackman family. I remember all his small toys to choose from. Do you remember that?
Dentist recommendations Hey folks!
I just moved to the city this week and am looking for a dentist for a general check up and eventually to remove two of my wisdom...

Glenn Yowell @ Iowa City Dental Health (Rochester Avenue, Iowa City).
He is absolutely fantastic. Caring, strong bedside manner, actually listens. He has done fillings on me, significantly more work on my fiancée. She is hard to numb and he was the first dentist to listen and notice when she could still feel pain during a procedure when she should have been numbed. He now remembers to "double numb" her whenever she has to have work done.
I no longer see him due to an insurance change, but my fiancée continues to go and would also highly recommend him. I would switch back to him in a heartbeat if my insurance allowed it.
Hygienists are also friendly and, in my opinion, do thorough work on routine cleanings and such.

Ann Connor Dentistry. The practice is in a historic house so it's a nice relaxed environment. I've had a few procedure's done that have gone great as well as regular cleaning. I highly recommend.

The College of Dentistry and Dental Clinics is a great place to start! They have a lot of options for care in their clinics and tend to be cheaper than most other dentist. If you go through the student clinics it tends to take more time, but is extraordinarily cheap. The faculty practices are more comparable to a traditional dentistry office setting and they offer excellent care.

Eastman dental has been good! They are super nice, accept my insurance through the university and all around seem professional and happy to help

I have had great experiences with Classic Smiles. I’ve had to have all kinds of stuff done and it’s all been handled really well. Super nice people. And I almost never had to wait more than 3-4 minutes to be seen, which is great for anxious people like me.

Pretty much most local Dentists here and the College are great. Just stay away from the corporate places like Aspen dental, they are a nightmare to deal with.

Dr. Hanneman at The Family Dental Center in Coralville is great.
Coming from a guy who's terrified of dentists I would recommend Esther Machen family dentistry. She's very patient, friendly and a good dentist. She also does referral credits off of your bill and the person who referred you (even on your first visit)
Ellis P. replied:
My sister always recommends Dr Bradley Oswald. She works for an endodontist so she sees how great and terrible everyone's work is in town. She takes her family to him.
Ellis P. replied:
Also, Comfort Care isn't recommended unless you have extreme anxiety about the dentist. Dillan goes to them and they pump money out of us for the dumbest things and have cancelled his appts without notifying him.
Kelly M. replied:
I take my boys to "My Dentist" and it is the first dentist they have been to. They have never one time been afraid to go to him.

We have an awesome one here in Vegas. She's so patient and kind to our son. Dr. Ashley Hoban is her name.

Just FYI - A pediatric dentist has 4 years of dental school PLUS 2 years of residency. There are great dentists who 'specialize' in pediatrics but are not certified in pediatrics. Here is a link to find certified pediatric dentists - https://www.abpd.org/Content/General-Public.aspx Maria- that is awesome to hear about Bethesda's clinic!
Ok so I really need to get my tooth pulled. Anyone in IC know of a good dentist that won't hesitate to gas me? I really hate dentists but I can no longer wait.
