Springtime role-call: what are your best plant nursery recommendations? I'm originally from an area of central PA where it felt like you couldn't drive 5 minutes in...

Good Host Plants in North Philly is my go-to for native perennials, which you should consider mostly planting. Native plants are hosts to native beneficial bugs and bring so much life (bees, butterflies, birds, and more) to your garden, even in the city. Non-native plants very, very rarely can be eaten by native bugs and so they don't really contribute to the ecosystem. For a wider selection, Primex in Glenside and Wedgewood in Glen Mills.

Primex in Glenside and Marano Nursery on Bethlehem Pike (near Ambler) are the best. Marano is a little higher quality but more expensive, but has probably the best selection of succulents in the city, and they are all huge.

[Black Creek Greenhouse](https://reallancastercounty.com/markets-2/flowers-gardens/black-creek-greenhouses/) has a fantastic selection and very good prices. Bonus: it's relatively close to Shady Maple Smorgasbord where you can indulge your inner glutton.

I go to Hillside Nursery at the junction of Lansdowne and Clifton Heights on the Baltimore Pike. Their greenhouses fill up in early May. It's very quick for me as I live in West Philly. Just get on Baltimore ave and drive through Lansdowne. Take a left at the defunct Kmart. Went yesterday for grass seed and Espoma organic garden fert. Takes about 15-20 minutes from Clark Park.

Not a nursery at all so selection is limited, but for price you can hardly beat the italian market. Giordano always has some along with a number of other places. Good for herbs, tomatoes, peppers and some flowers at least.

Cultivaire on Girard. Rather new. Awesome selection. The owner MaryAnne is amazing and really knows her shit. They also do landscaping for private homes as well as places around the city like The Continental and Fringe Salon in the Bok Building. Really good stuff.
