Barefoot drawback - after spending the whole summer walking around with no shoes, on grass, on pavement - I went to put my regular sneakers back on and they no longer...

Tom's- they stretch to match your footprint. For every pair you purchase they donate a pair to a shoeless child. Next best thing to going barefoot. www.toms.com

Vicky Birkenstock soles don't flex enough - my feet have become accustomed to articulating all the way so I want a sole that is a minimalist sole with complete flexibility. I think I am going to become a shoe designer and make my own shoes!

If your feeling adventurous... apparently very simple, incredibly warm and unbelievably comfortable btw the Native shaman said to treat the hide with mink oil for waterproofing. http://www.skillsforwildlives.com/2010/02/making-traditional-mukluks/
Go online to Zappos.com, look for Clarks, you can get wide widths with good support.

Traditional Native Made Mukluks with Sealskin Sole Women's Size 8 Price $649.99 & Up S&H $45.00 http://www.alaskafurexchange.com/alaska_gifts_mukluks.shtml
Karin N. replied:
Spoke to a fellow who runs a native gift gallery - most mukluks have a crepe or rubber sole because regular leather isn't tough enough nor waterproof. Apparently sealskin is the way to go if you want a natural sole, but I was looking online, there seems to be a problem with taking Canadian sealskin across the US border. The site above is Alaskan - so no such problems. On the other hand, Manitobah Mukluks sells authentic mukluks with specialy designed Virbram soles. They're dool - they have a traditional Native design in the sole. http://www.manitobah.ca/
