Southeast Alaska Animal Medical Center charges $25 plus tax for nail trims - walk in or just call for a nail appt - doesn't have to see a vet. I've been in/out in 20 mins with 2 large dogs.

Are there any charitable organizations that could help the family of an elderly vet with moving costs etc? This would be for a family in Oregon, not locally. The VA...
Tasha K. replied:
Check with local VFW groups. They fund raiser for these sorts of things and even if they can't help they should have information on other local resources.

Talk to The Elks in the are they are moving to - or American Legion. They are both strong Americanism organizations that love and support Veterans

I've heard good things about Vic Walker, he'll come to your house. I really like Tongass Vet. http://www.tongassvet.com
Mandee C. replied:
Dr. Walker has been quite sick lately, I don't believe he is seeing pets for the time being. Dr. New and Dr. Haggerty at Juneau Vet have always been, and always will be my favorites!
Julie F. replied:
Sorry to hear about Dr. Walker. Hope he has a speedy recovery!
Sandi B. replied:
I use and like Dr. New, Juneau Veterinary Hospital
Susan W. replied:
Dr. Walker has had a serious medical emergency and was medivaced from Juneau Friday. He's in ICU at Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage. Dr. Rachel Berngartt is covering his house call practice. She can be reached at 957-5022. Vic's voice mail also provides her #. Good thoughts, prayers, for his full recovery most welcome and appreciated.
Sabrina D. replied:
Susan Walker Vic and your family are in my thoughts and prayers, gbs is scary stuff.
Julie F. replied:
Tongass Vets is very caring and a little less expensive. They are very caring and do a lot of volunteer work with an animal rescue group in town. That's a bonus in my eyes!
Is there a vet office that might do an exam on a dog to see if an injury is serious or not, that won't break us? Or willing to do payments? I think our momma dog tore...
Amanda O. replied:
Dr. Sam Smith at Tongass Vet is amazing and the most affordable!
Jaime Z. replied:
We used Care Credit at SE Animal last year. Our cat needed emergency surger to the tune of $3000 after tests and surgery and my husband had been laid off from work. The statement gives you the deadline to pay it off and as long as you pay it off within the time frame there is no interest charges for you, the care provider pays the interest. It took like 10 minutes to apply and get approved
Sherry S. replied:
I've used Care credit for my tooth I recently cracked. It saved me. There's a lot of things you can use it for, it's a credit card and once I get this paid off, I have the credit card I can use if something happens with our three fur babies. The credit card is good till Nov. 21. Check out CareCredit.com

I always use dr. Burgess Sitka alaska he's a very caring understanding veterinarian that's out for the animal and not for the money

Linda S. replied:
We took both of ours to Dr. New at Juneau Veterinary because he's the only one who does laparascopic spays. More expensive, but so worth it because the only recovery is having the drugs wear off that night. No having to wear the "cone of shame" and no long incision. Just 3 small incisions about the size of a pea. And no stitches ~ the skin heals really fast too.
Helena N. replied:
We took our little 5 pound dog to Dr. Smith at Tongass in January of this year and he did an awesome job! Our little guy bounced back quickly and had no side effects or issues from the surgery. The cost was $274.34. Hope this helps.

We've gone to Juneau Veterinary Hospital for 20 years with all of our pets. One of my little guys is there right now, as we speak! Dr. New is a fantastic doctor, he's extremely knowledgeable with all types of health issues, I always recommend him!
I'm in need of a cheap vet. Just need a certificate for my dogs to go on the ferry & Canada. They just had everything done in May. Any ideas? Thanks
Hilary R. replied:
Check with Alaska Marine Highway, but I just took my 6 month puppy on the ferry Skagway-Juneau and they didn't even ask for a health certificate, or check his tags. Also, today I just took a friend's cats to the Southeast Animal Medical Center for a health check/health certificates for Ak Air. The entire appointment and updated vaccines was $170 (for two animals).
Elissa L. replied:
Tongas veterinary. If you have all the paperwork together with proof of vaccines, getting the cert is quick and a good price.
Does anyone know if there is a vet clinic open today?
Julie C. replied:
Your regular vet might have on call. I don't think any vets in town are open Sunday, Southeast Alaska Animal Medical Clinic has an on call vet. 907-789-7551 Hope your pet is ok.
Daryia T. replied:
SE Vet has an on call vet. They had to remove porcupine needles grom my Guss at 7 pm on a Weekday not too long ago
Kathy P. replied:
What did it cost? SE Vet is my normal clinic, but can’t afford a huge bill. ☹️
Does anyone know if there is a vet in town that does after hour house calls?
Julie C. replied:
Not sure any do after hours house calls as they wouldn't have emergency equipment if they needed. Southeast Alaska Animal Medical Center has after hours 789-7551
