Marco and Tom at Tom's Automotive on 3 rd street are good guys. I have also had good experiences with Autotechtronics on 5 th street. I don't know anybody's name though. I know it's in old town Katy but it's worth the drive!

UPDATE: Other online reviews support all of your suggestions for Golbows and Baby Sal's, but I also noticed a large number of positive reports for Dillon's Automotive. One of my classmates told me how much she trusts them, so I finally decided to give Dillon's a shot. I feel like I may be paying more here, but their customer service has been on point. They are upfront with everything, and since I cannot afford to have all my work done at once, they have been great about helping me prioritize the repairs and giving me an estimate for each scenario.
The waiting room is clean, coffee and bottled water if available, and they offer a courtesy shuttle.
I had the steering pump replaced first. We noticed it was hard to steer sometimes, like the pump wasn't assisting. I emailed them, and they quickly contacted me via email and phone to apologize for the inconvenience and to have me come in. They already ordered another pump in case it was defective.
I just dropped the car off today and authorized some front end work to be done while they have it. I'll follow up with another report soon.

What kind of car? I know a decent private mechanic, but he only speaks Spanish and only takes cash/checks.

Erika Garcia if u haven't learned by now, that mechanic is working u... Just taking ur money and not fixing anything... That mechanic is either ripping u off ur money or really isn't a mechanic at all... I have never met a mechanic to look at a car for a 3 rd time and still not be able to fix the problem... I can ask my boy Oscar if he knows anything about electrical... And he lives in Katy... Just down the street from where I work... If he knows, I can give u his number if he is ok with it...
