Your local fire department likely utilizes a gas detector that can help confirm or rule out the presence of a number of dangerous atmospheres. You can access them by calling Dare Central Communications on the non emergency # 252-473-3444. However if your symptoms are severe, dial 911 and a Dispatcher will immediately send the appropriate resources. Hope this helps.

Kim Barlow Joca, the best thing to do is find the water line and cut out to 3 feet above it. If you got an inch of water, remove everything from 3'1" down; if you got a foot, remove from 4 feet. Bleach will help for the time being. The rule of thumb I learned after Irene is that if it's porous and was wet, it's gotta go. Doesn't take more than basic tools for this - just remember to cut power to where you're cutting first. It's a pain, but the faster you can get it cut out the better. Before you rebuild or have someone rebuild, let a pro come treat with something heavier and more targeted than bleach. Last but not least, photograph every step of the process and get detailed invoices.

Oh I hear ya. Just providing the helpful info I do have for anyone who needs it - your name just happened to be handy in case you did need it.:) Hope you fared well in the storm! And I sure am glad to live in an area with so many good neighbors sharing good information like Kim Beacham Blevins and you! It's a hard thing to go through, and definitely harder if you're conned by a bad contractor!
