Fresh, Local Produce? So, last year I visited a plant nursery that happened to also be selling local, in-season produce, and I was shocked at how cheap it was (and...

The Farmer's Market is probably the place to get the most local produce. Other than that, Farm Fresh Produce on Sutherland brings in local and regional produce. They travel to Georgia and South Carolina to get some of their stock.

At the Farmer’s Market, Thompson Farms has some of the best produce for the price. I think they have a Facebook page with their market locations throughout the week. They’ve had crazy long lines during strawberry season, but I buy most of my vegetables from them. Nourish Knoxville has a pretty good list of markets that they are involved with/help organize. Check out their site too.

I love this old building located on Rutledge Pike in Grainger County. I think it was a grocery store in it's day. Does anyone know the history?
Jane B. replied:
Edna Collins Kosier going toward Rutledge it is located on the left. Not sure what it is close to. I told David to pull over so I could take a picture. I might want to use it in a painting someday.

Dixon Grocery building in the Sunrise Community along Highway 11-W in Grainger County. The grocery closed in the mid 1950’s and since then, weathering and non-use has gradually left the building in disrepair. http://1 pstnvro9 pz4 ageywbeh0819 me.wpengine.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Dsc_0632_old-store_BW_lg-1024 x680.jpg

Conventional: Publix is hands down my favorite place to shop, Earth Fare is awesome and I like the Ingles in Lenoir City also because it's hardly ever busy.

My fave is The Fresh Market. I shop the sale days and stock up on chicken, steak and pork chops. I can get great deals by hitting the buy one get one Tuesdays and 'foodie Fridays'. Also the staff in Johnson City (where I actually live...boo!) is super friendly!!!
Rachel R. replied:
I like Trader Joes but live too far away to shop there on a regular basis. I LOVE Kroger. Since we shop there so much, we usually get $.40 off per gallon for gas and that is a huge savings. I love the coupons they send me in the mail, and their sale prices are better than any other grocery store, imo. Especially when combining with coupons.

Whole Foods and Fresh Market are both on Kingston pike within a mile or so of each other. There is a very nice Health Food store at Turkey Creek as well. When I first developed RA, for three or four years my immune system was so depleted that we even ordered off the internet. I stayed away from the nightshade group of foods and all wheat and dairy. Any thing with a fragrance set off my RA symptoms like wildfire.
