Those look like the printing blocks used for making batik fabric. The batik uses wax to seal some parts of the cloth so the dye does not penetrate, thus making the pattern. And it is traditional from the South Pacific, so Hawaii would also be logical. I suspect the paraffin company was involved in supplying the wax. http://mybatik.org.my/mybatikv2/2010/04/
