Seems the author drove there (maybe not in a convertible) but also seems closest town you can fly to is Flagstaff AZ. Small regional airlines will fly there from LA I would think. Envy you la!!

Monument Valley is not close to any major airport. A good source of information is www.arizonaguide.com. No matter how you do it, a lot of driving is involved. There is a website addressing travel from Las Vegas to Monument Valley, www.govegas.about.com. From memory it seems to me that would be a very long drive. The website says 454 miles. I believe the driving time from Cortez, CO would be about half as long. That would also allow a visit to Mesa Verde, the largest Anasazi cliff dwellings in the US which is quite close to Cortez. Unfortunately, I don't think Cortez has any commercial air service and the closest airport is Durango which has air service from Denver. Flagstaff, AZ is probably the closest major airport and is about three hours from Kayenta, near Monument valley. You can fly commercial from Denver to Flagstaff. I hope this is helpful.
