I really liked this teacher. I stopped going (nothing to do with her; I lost interest unfortunately because of other stuff that came up in life) but I made a good bit of progress. She teaches in her apartment about a 1000 ft. away from the Van Ness metro: http://www.pianoteachers.com/rrose/

You have the worst timing. A friend takes lessons once a week somewhere in NW. Seems reasonably priced and he's improving rapidly. He also left this morning for a two-week European vacation, and I sincerely doubt he'll be checking his email very often.
