I had two ceramic calendar plates, one read 1915, Chopin and Toussel Grocer and Tinware, Lafayette, Louisiana. I gave them to my cousin to show her family and she passed...

Susan Daigle Savant, I hope someone locates those calendar plates. They would be nice memorabilia for you or any of the relatives on this thread since they're so old. At one time I lived several blocks from St. Genevieve, remember a store near by that sold groceries and sewing items but cannot remember the name. It's possible it was Chopin's but I can't say for sure. Glad the Logan brothers connected with some ancestry history.

Scott Longon per our records...after messaging you and reading your Rivet clip...awesome..."Armand" was a Toussel, not a Chopin...Vic and Gaston (my grandfather were 1/2 brothers)...Lucien was a Chopin. Article on the Chopin fire in 1912. There was a benefit for Louis Chopin later. The article on the benefit and other articles can be found at this link and using the search feature. Susan Daigle Savant, the Toussel family members are mentioned in numerous articles. http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/

Gaston Toussel was a well known entrepeneur, first in Morgan City and then in Lafayette after he married Susanna Belinda Walter from Morgan City and came to Lafayette... but truth be told, he was a "weekend" alcoholic and began to lose everything to debt...Vic Chopin bought him out and as Gaston continued his downward spiral he lost everything and ended up working for The Daily Adverstiser. Very sad, but a very true history. His mother, Marie Meuller was married to Arman Toussel, she divorced Arman and married a Mr. Chopin...Gaston had half brothers in Vic and Lucien (sic) by this marriage.

Susan Daigle Savant, my father's sister Ethel and her husband Frank Chopin owned and operated Chopin's IGA Grocery from at least the 1940s until they retired perhaps in the 1970s. At one time the store was located adjacent to their residence. In fact, my parents met there on a Sunday. After my mother returned from WWII, my grandmother sent her to get some milk. It being Sunday, the store was closed but my mother knocked on the door of the residence. Frank and Ethel answered and introduced Effie Tanner to her future husband, Joseph Logan, who happened to be visiting his sister and brother-in-law. If I recall correctly the house was moved and store closed to make way for the Evangeline Thruway. The Chopins reopened in a new building close by. I'm pretty sure that Frank inherited the business from his father, Vic Chopin, known as Mr. Vic. If Louis Chopin had any relationship to Mr. Vic, then our families are even more related than I realized. My brother Patrick Logan can correct any of this of I'm wrong.
