I second Lahaina Grill; also Mama's Fish House and Haliimaile General Store.
Paul T. replied:
Lahaina Grill. Indoors - a/c, great food. Mama's is good but over-rated imo and it's open air so could get muggy. Just went to both last month.
Renee B. replied:
Why doesn't anyone ever mention Sale Pepe. Our favorite restaurant on the island. Amazing Italian. No view, you don't need it. So delicious.
Lance J. replied:
Depending upon what time you land, our last visit we landed and went straight to Mama's Fish House for lunch. Hula Grill in the sand, Merriman's, Honu Restaurant, Kimo's and Maui Brewing Co
Jeff M. replied:
We love to hit Kimo's http://www.kimosmaui.com/mobile
Lisa K. replied:
Best gelato is a tiny hole in the wall at the south end of the commercial strip in Lahaina - they have a deck out back over the water that seats maybe 15 people at most. A favorite stop. Pacific'O at the north end of Front Street, Lahaina and the Hali'imaile General Store upcountry in Makawao also good. I'm another one who finds Mama's overrated.
Vicki R. replied:
Leilani's outdoor bar for drinks and bar bites, within walking distance . MaLa Ocean Tavern in Lahania awesome food, Fleetwoods roof top for signature cocktails and sunsets ( they do a great ceremony during sunsets), Polly's in Makawao for Mexican great place to relax, and Lahania Pizza
Allison M. replied:
Sale Pepe for Italian in Lahaina - amazing - get a reservation! Shark Pit Social in Lahaina - a local's spot - SO good!
Maria R. replied:
I second Mama's Fish House and Star Noodle. Grindz Cafe in Lahaina is also great for breakfast.
Janette K. replied:
Aloha! Hubby and I have been coming to Maui for 40 years. Mama's Fish House is a must. It's pricey, but worth it. Go for lunch so you can enjoy the fabulous view and don't have to drive that long way back to MOC in the dark. The second restaurant not to miss is Star Noodle in Lahaina, up the hill from the Cannery.
My family will be there next month for the first time. Looking for restaurant recommendations that are more affordable so that we won't have to cook much... with Rick...

Another good one for Italian/pizza is next to Ruth Chris Steakhouse called Pi Artisan Pizzeria. It's part of the Outlet Shopping Center at the very beginning of Front Street. You can park out back & I believe the restaurant will validate. BEST GARLIC KNOTS!!!

Frida's Beach House is supposed to have a great Happy Hour & phenomenal Mexican food. Our friends went several times on this last trip & said it was super good.

If you are willing to drive to Kihei, there are lots of good eats there! A few of our favorites are Kihei Caffe for fried rice, Caffe O'Lei, Sansai, Shaka Shaka pizza, and Local Boy shaved ice!! Caffe O'Lei has a great kids menu and awesome seafood. If you go to www.mauitime.com they have a link to "Best of Maui 2008" which has a list of favorites voted on from the local people.

We always go to Tommy Bahama's down in Wailea.. http://www.tommybahama.com/TBG/Cafes/Find.jsp#/states/ There's other choices at the Grand Wailea, Four Seasons, etc, but we haven't been there yet.
Brent W. replied:
Always enjoy Plantation House at Kapalua at sunset - also I'O in Lahaina
Margie H. replied:
Have you ever tried the Feast at Lele, luau in Lahaina? Highly recommend it. Table service. four courses from different islands, paired with wines. Great entertainment. The best luau we've tried.
Timothy P. replied:
The only luau I've done on Maui was Old Lahaina Luau. I'm looking for breakfast ideas. My Google searches brings me to a place called Gazebo Restaurant on Napili Shores, but I was wondering if anyone else had suggestions for a real good breakfast. My wife and I need a good meal before the road to Hana.
Spending my honeymoon here next February. It will be our first visit. Any tips and suggestions on activities, restaurants..etc are much appreciated!
David G. replied:
Mamas Fish House for a great dinner. The view is incredible. I always recommend purchasing the Maui Revealed book. It has a lot of 'hidden' places.

Chris B. replied:
Go to Mauihawaii.org, Jon has the best info and advice. Been to Maui 19 times and I agree with most of his recommendations.
Carol M. replied:
Mama's Fish House at sunset or anytime is amazing. Road to Hana is great day if no one in car is prone to car sickness. Lots of cool places to pull off along the way, If you're bikers the sunrise on Haleakua is quite amazing. Its a ride in van up and bike ride down. Enjoy

Okazuya Deli and the Fish Market Maui (for the best fish tacos) both on the same strip mall on Lower Honoapiilani Rd in Honokowai. I love the the Mahi Mahi in lemon caper sauce and N.Y. Strip at Okazuya. No fine dining here, but great food. We do carry out for Okazuya.
Ellyn S. replied:
We enjoyed Hail'imaile General Store for lunch. Tied it in with Hail'imaile Distilling Co and Makai Glass Creations which are both across the street. Makawao isn't far either.
Steve L. replied:
Kimo's and Ruth Chris in Lahaina for dinner. Pioneer Inn and Longhi's for breakfast. Peggy Sue's in Kihei is fun for lunch. Kihei Cafe is good for breakfast too. Stay away from Mamas Fish House. It's overpriced and over rated.
Geoffrey K. replied:
Star Noodles
Sandi C. replied:
Sale Pepe in Lahaina is wonderful! Husband and wife owners! He is Italian. Owned restaurants in Brooklyn, NY. The Westin Hotel, near Whaler's Village is grand! Walking distance, have a drink at beach bar and dinner on lawn overlooking ocean! Make reservation! Duke's is great! Very accommodating! Japengo is fantastic! Enjoy!
Heather A. replied:
Star Noodle up the hill from Lahaina Gateway--amazing, and despite modest prices you definitely need to get a reservation. Pi Artisan Pizzeria on the north end of Front St--great pizza napolitana and craft cocktails. Excellent happy hour deals.
Mary L. replied:
I recommend The Plantation House@Kapalua Golf Course. We love it for brunch/lunch but have also had dinner there and it is always wonderful. (Pretty sunset views in the evening, too)

Terri Salerno!! Thank you so much for posting photos of Frida's- it looks luscious! I can't wait to check it out. Did you like it as much as Tiajuana's! I could have eaten there every night. Where else did you go
Laura S. replied:
Love Mala - Honu never came close. Try it every trip and it's just all right. Frida's I did not see last April. Is it new? TiJuana's was consistently good. Don't know why they left. On Front Street - We enjoy Fleetwood's and of course Ruth Chris, Hard Rock, Bubba's and cheeseburger in paradise. The next visitor, take a camera phone picture of Frieda's and the menu. Not on the Strip, but the Ka'Anapali grill at the Marriott serves a luscious breakfast at our resort. Lunch and dinner are great too and they get all the football games. Beachwear has great dinner event nights, too.
