Can you recommend a good psychiatrist and/or therapist in Lansing area?
Winger217 replied:
Psychiatry can be pretty difficult to find. Most offices are not accepting new patients. Lansing Institute of Behavioral Medicine was accepting last I knew. Lansing Psych, Meridian Psych, and Psych Associates are the other big entities. Sparrow is not accepting at this time. Depending on insurance, Therapy Today is great and tries to get patients in as soon as possible

I’ve had a great experience with Shirley Neal. http://www.deltawaverly.com/ I was specifically wanting a smart, straight-talk, psychological science focused person who didn’t lean heavy on the “spiritual” side of therapy (like “getting in touch with yourself” or yoga or what have you), and she was wonderful. She listened to the issues I was experiencing, educated me on why I was experiencing the feelings I was feeling, and gave me practical help in what to do with those feelings and what to look out for, which immediately helped when I put them into practice. She also gave me great reading material to further my knowledge on the issues I was facing.

Does anyone know if there's openings at any of these offices or at least not 6 month waiting times.

I just started at Lansing Institute of Behavioral Medicine seeing Dr. Mahabir to fix my medications (another doctor swapped things around so much I didn't know what I should be on). I got an appointment within a week or two. I was really impressed by how fast I got it, and Dr. Mahabir seems like a pretty good psychiatrist.
