I'm afraid of needles as well but tattoos feel different than say a shit out a piercing. I started laughing when I got my wrist tattoo which was also my first. I based my choice on at technique. For my wrist tattoo, I saw Sonny at https://www.facebook.com/169579193067342 Black Rat Tattoo . He was super gentle on my skin. I didn't even bleed even with the tattoo bring in the delicate skin off my wrist. Pretty sure any of the artists there would be good. Check Atom Bomb as well. My roommate got his new tattoo from there. He got a large shoulder piece and it didn't bleed at all.

Diane at Syncere Tattoo, she's great. Reality is that any tattoo artist you deal with, it's going to hurt. No way around it.

He's not in Cruces but Carlton Rich at Two bits tattoo is an amazingly talented artist. He has done all but 2 of my tattoos and I must say the other two weren't nearly as gentle nor did they heal as good as the ones I received from Two Bits Tattoo. If your extremely on edge about the first tattoo experience he did offer an ointment that numbs the area before tattooing it. That's how I had my first tattoo done and after wards I had them done with out it and I can say you can tell the difference, it really does help significantly. He has the lightest hands of any tattooist I've gone to.
