Just leaving this here. Make sure to find out whether you get digital copies of the pictures with a release from the Photographer. If not you may have to buy the prints, and they are not cheap. Most photographers make their money on people buying prints.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but $1000 will get you a full-time college student who just purchased a canon rebel, the newest version of photoshop and recently picked up the hobby. $1000 for wedding photography isn't realistic. I would venture to say the low end for a decent professional wedding photographer in the area is somewhere around $3,500 and I'm willing to bet you won't get a full day with said photographer. If possible, make sacrifices elsewhere in your wedding budget to invest in a decent photographer. It's the only tangible reminder you'll have from your wedding day.

My sister in law has a pretty successful local photography business and did the wedding photos for my wedding. Looked through the two albums once over the five years and have none of the pictures displayed. I feel like people think wedding pictures are a big deal, but for a lot of people they don't mean much.

Agreed with the other user that you get what you pay for. We cheaped out on the photographer and regret it. Almost two years later and we are still fighting with her on an issue to get the rest of what we were promised. Also as another user said get a release and make sure it's an official looking document. Some stores are really strict and have tried to say I couldn't pick up photos that I took with my phone because of how professional they looked.

Go spend some time in /r/photography and you will begin to understand why that is an unreasonable expectation to have.

I got married in July. We used http://www.wthestudio.com/ it was phenominal. It was $2800, but we got an engagement shoot, 8 hours on my wedding day with 3 photographers, all files digitally as well as a 50 page leather bound album with thick pages. Shana, the owner of the studio is incredible. She's super flexible, friendly and laid back. She took the stress out of everything. She put together our menu of services to accommodate our needs. She was always willing to adjust if we wanted things a bit lower in cost. And she even ended up staying 30 minutes past her time to get some great shots because the evening lighting was just too perfect. You should definitely look into them. Good luck!
