I have a pair of these http://www.vegetarian-shoes.co.uk/airseal_boots/airseal_boulder_boot_black/10456_p.html that I wear often and have walked miles in, and they have held up really well. I have had them nearly 3 years and apart from the wear on the sole they look basically new.. Have never dealt with returns so I can't vouch for that.

I'd definitely recommend the quality from Wills as I have a pair from them. Bourgeois Boheme are worth checking out too. A bit pricey but they might have a sale

I got some half price vegan DMs by doing a lot of googling. They last longer than Vegetarian Shoes in my experience. VS that I have had last a year of daily wear before soles cracked and leaked which is fine but I am on year 2 of my vegan docs and the soles are as good as day one and don't leak.

Merrell do vegan boots. Apparently the Capra is vegan. I've never tried them myself though: http://www.merrell.com/US/en/capra-bolt-mid-waterproof/ I do have the Chameleons, which are great, but now I wish I had gone for something with better ankle support and more waterproof, as the Capra seems to be.

I've got two pairs of the women's version of these (one in Leeds and one at my folks' in the Highlands) - super cheap, super comfy, synthetic, waterproof, breathable, haven't fallen apart yet.
