Just make sure the small firms have Back Up in case something goes wrong ie Blown window or glass shatters unexpectedly as my window did and the window fitter was on holiday and unable to replace the window even though it was under guarantee we had to pay for the replacement window ourselves

Microsoft office is an additional cost. I think there are two options Office that excludes outlook. This lasts forever I believe and costs around £99 or Office 365 which lasts around one year but includes outlook. I believe PC World do a deal on this version where you get three years plus three years of McAfee for around £120. Or if you just want very basic access you can use office live via hotmail.com which has excel and word for free.

pixlr.com is free and can open PSD's in a push, bit like Elements in a web app.

Paint.net is free and has most of the features you need for photo editing.

I would recommend GIMP for free photomanipulation, and for digital painting you can't beat Paint Tool SAI, which has a 30 day trail and costs £15 I think.
