Western Road at the top of the town has the Pelham Arms with excelletn food and a good atmosphere. Just walk down the high street, which starts from St ann's and St Pancras churches at the end of Western Road. (The two hills are called St Anne's Hill - the the flat bit of the high street - then the hill down to Cliffe High Street at the bottom is called School Hill), although it is still the High Street. There are restaurants all the way down. Lemongrass Thai in School Hill is good, Piza Express further down.. Aqua at the bottom. Famiglia near the station street traffic lights. Ask at the cross roads. Two other Thai restaurants are very good - at the bottom of Station Street there's Pailin, and Erawan in Lansdown Place. Just beyond the bridge is Harveys Tavern - best tartar sauce in town! Then further down Is Bill's, and Le Magazin. All good. Just off the flat bit of the high street, between Accesorize and the Nationwide building society is Pelham House - expensive but delicious food. As you can gather, we eat out a lot!

Pelham House is great to eat outside on a sunny day and the views from the old racecourse and the golf club are great.

Ram Inn at Firle for very good pub food. More restaurant than pub in style. Quite pricey but not too shocking. High days and celebrations only!

Lewes Flea market for reasonably priced quirky/vintage furniture. Cheaper in general than the antique shops - good if you are on a budget but still looking for something characterful with a story. It's also a fun place to wander round (as are all the antique shops in Lewes, lots of nooks and crannies and little rooms in corners!). As mentioned above, Furniture Now is great if you are on a very tight budget. Welcome to Lewes!
Stephen W. replied:
For furniture you could try Furniture Now which has a wide range of used furniture at cheaper prices than the flea market. Alternatively you could try the Wood Store in Brighton who make furniture out of reclaimed pieces of wood. Eating/drinking out: The Hearth (pizza), the Swan, Lewes Arms, and the Snowdrop are all good.
Steffan H. replied:
The Hearth (best pizzas of all time + amazing bakers), The White Hart hotel (for the full, 'olde England' experience - kind of run down and all the better for it), Fleamarket, Lewes Arms is the best pub (loads of amazing pubs in Lewes though, inc Snowdrop and Swan). The only thing Lewes lacks is places to buy food! You end up going to one of the three supermarkets just to buy a pint of milk! A few OK oriental restaurants, but really you'll be better served by Brighton for that sort of thing. I personally love Panda Garden but it's not world-beating... I just like it! (Just noticed after writing this that Stephen Wilkins has recommended the same three pubs and The Hearth - apologies for repetition)

Hi all,
Does anyone know of an interior decorator and a carpenter who would be able to refurbish a small cafe interior in Brighton?
Thanks!

Not sure if he's booked up right at this minute but you could try giving him a call he does not charge the earth either. He might know someone who can do the carpentry. 07597895217 his name's Rob.
