Checkout consignment furniture stores... We found good stuff in them at good prices... Alternatively wait for big sales (Black Friday).

I went to Macys Furniture Gallery for my furniture. Macys had a decent selection for couches, beds, and dining sets. I checked out Ashley's and wasn't super impressed by their salespeople or prices. I also found everything I liked at Ashleys (coffee table, tv stand, end table) on Amazon for a lot less, so it might be worth just buying some stuff online.

Had the same issues when we moved here last year, and have hodgepodge of styles from a chain and this place: http://www.yelp.com/biz/dsarte-unique-furniture-reno-2 We bought a dresser and very cool mid century console for our turntable/records/speakers that we love. I will put in a *coughcough* word for RC Willey.. we wanted a toddler friendly comfortable sectional and bought it from them. Had some issues with the recliner function and cup holders and they have fixed the problems each time with a tech visit.
