COMPUTER REPAIR SUGGESTIONS:
Pretty sure my HP DV7-2180us is in need of a new power supply / fan. I can hear the fan grinding. It is getting hot and shutting down. ...
Scott L. replied:
Jeff, try blowing out the fan with some canned air. The DV7 series is pretty easy to fix that on if the fan is indeed dead. no more than an hour of labor and the cost of the fan( less than $10). Also elevate the back of the screen in the mean time so the vents can circulate air. The thing that is probably wrong is that the fan that has either seized up and not working or is clogged, hence my suggestion of the canned/compressed air. If the unit will power on and then dies after it gets hot, it is not likely that the actual power supply is bad. see HP tech note http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware/HOW-TO-FIX-DV7-FAN-OVERHEATING-PROBLEM/td-p/1360861 If the fan is bad, was a point I could do it pretty much blind folded....

Well it looks like the next time I have a problem with a computer I will be taking it to Gearup Electronics or Jeffrey because it looks like the most popular feedback I got.
