Any suggestions on the best dentist for someone who is absolutely terrified of the dentist? I've been going to Weir but just not happy there - TIA

The Montrose Tooth Fairy -- Dr. Baker. She's amazing! I love going to the dentist now.:-) On Montrose, just west of Western.

I second Montrose Tooth Fairy. Dr. Baker & staff are fantastic. Used to use Oradent but began to question treatment methods.

Looking for a new dentist in the Lombard/Villa Park area. Anyone?
Actually I love my dentist but her office staff is the worst.

I agree with Christine - however, if you still want to try somewhere else, I HIGHLY recommend SmileMore on Roosevelt, across from Ultra Foods (strip mall with UPS, etc.). EXCELLENT staff, WONDERFUL young dentist - Dr. "Sam". Norm, you'd love him; he has such a great sense of humor, a lot of compassion and he does excellent work. Great staff. What struck me the deepest was the respect he shows his staff (always "please" and a peppy "thank you!" to his assistants. No pomp - and they all are very meticulous.) I had extensive work to be done (took several months) - chose him to do it and was never reticent when I knew I had an upcoming app't (as I used to be about going to the dentist) - in fact, I leave their office either smiling or outright laughing.

I see Dr. Khan at Advanced Family Dental on Main St and like her a lot. Her office staff leaves a lot to be desired as well, though. What's up with that apparent trend?
Ana A. replied:
Dr. David Wenz on Main St, Lombard. He and his staff are the BEST!

RE: Sales Happy/Insurance practices - that starts with the doctor; they set up the "fiduciary goals" of their practice ... staff, actually, is just doing as told, methinks. (Having a hubs who was in practice, I can tell you - there's a whole ancillary industry, offering dentists, chiro's, etc. all manner of "management" strategies (i.e. - ways to get patients hooked on coming in again and again, how to introduce "difficult" charges to patients, how to get your patients/staff to bring in MORE patients, how to have a cash-only practice, how to push additional services, etc.) - seminars on how to "grow your practice." Mike went into doing peer review because he got tired of what was happening around him. He saw (prevalent in dentistry and chiropractic) that there is a whole movement beyond "patient education" and how to PREVENT disease - which he called "patient edjamification" that involves staff teaching patients why they NEED to keep coming back, etc. Sad. Some offices offer bonuses to staff for getting cash up front or getting more patients. NOT saying that's what your dentist is doing, but I AM SURE that if she's got some sharpo's doing her collections and pushing additional services, it's a policy set by the doc.
