My elder daughter is finishing at Campbell Kindergarten and it has been the most wonderful experience. The teachers are professional, experienced and just lovely. Big focus on playing and kids challenging themselves but in a very safe and nurturing environment. Mat time at end of day. A welcoming and happy community for kids and parents. Highly recommend!

I should say that, for anyone with the same question both the Wilton Montessori centre and childspace are amazing, just out of our price range
Jenni M. replied:
I have 2 kids and we've been to both Campbell Kindy and Karori Kindy. Both are absolutely amazing, and I would't hesitate to recommend them. They are pretty relaxed kindys. It's mostly free play with a rolling morning tea (spread over roughly 30 mins - 1 hour so the kids can eat at their leisure [within reason]). The 3 year olds have a short mat time (like 10 minutes) at the end, so I wouldn't classify either as being that structured. The 4 yr olds have longer mat time (30 mins I think) partly to get them used to school. Sunshine has a great rep too, so I think you'd be happy with any of the Karori Kindys. Generally people choose one based on the location and days. It's quite nice for the kids to go to kindy with the kids that will go to their school, so often kids from Sunshine feed into Karori West, and Campbell kindy and Karori Kindy feed into Karori Normal. That's not to say that happens for all kids, as people move etc, or go to other schools, days don't always suit etc.

I'd second Damion's comments about St Mary's. The new Head Teacher has made some significant improvements and it's a really family focused centre with lots of play going on. You can do part-time hours there, I think it's a minimum of two days a week. http://www.stmaryschildcare.org.nz/
