Question. The photographer Henry Peach Robinson was born in Ludlow, on 9th July 1830. Does anybody know the address of the house?
Michael M. replied:
Well it has been a bit a magical history tour. I have not found his house, but do know the 100 yard stretch where the house is. There is a large house at the end of the row that used to be a girls school, but it was never called Horatio Russell's Academy. I asked an old dear in the doorway to College Court, but that college used to be for Monks and is now flats, and as we were chatting another lady was walking by so we asked her if she knew of Henry Peach Robinson. Straight away she said 'the photographer and artist', but did not know where he was born. Try the Castle Bookstore she said. The chap in there knew who he was and told me has inherited an oil painting attributed to H.P. Robinson with excellent providence. When the Library and Museum are open next week I shall explore further. Funny to think he was the pioneer of photographic composites back in the mid 1800 s and we think ourselves so clever being able to do it Photoshop now.
