Any suggestions for commercially shipping kayaks across the USA? It seems to be nearly impossible these days or astronomically expensive.

There used to be a Canoe forum called Cboat.net that had a forum on paddlers traveling across the country with space on their roof racks and transporting boats to help with their gas money expenses; a win win situation for sure. The sloppiest of paddlers would take better care of their cargo than the best of the folks loading trucks and being pressured to get the most in each load. Haven't visited it in a while and that may sort be what you folks are discussing above. I remember a local Arkansas paddler had his brand new Apple Line Wildwater C-1 shipped from the NE back in the late 70's/early 80's and when they opened up the truck, there was a piano laying on top of his C-1. He was not happy....... If you are traveling Greyhound across the country and you have a rodeo boat in a bag or shrink wrap, it can travel as added baggage since it will fit under the cargo storage area and NOT have a piano fall on it. I have had success shipping used plastic boats using Forwardair.com. You have to take it to their terminal and pay for shipping via money order(exact amount) unless you have a business account with them. NO cash and no credit cards. I sent a Dagger Cascade C-1 from Iowa to WVA last year for like $98 and it got there in like 3 days. The buyer was thrilled beyond words. Try getting 17' long plastic or ash canoe gunwales shipped anywhere in the country.........lol

Happy to report to all that KAS Transport - Macedon, NY - is in business. I just got off the phone with Steve Skinner855-452-9256 and he is sending me quotes for shipping two boats from DC & FL to TX. KAS specializes in shipping kayaks, canoes, and rowing sculls across the country. If you want your boats to arrive in one piece - for certain - I highly recommend KAS.
