Reef Island is awesome! I believe they have 3 and 4 bedroom flats. There are restaurants, a coffee shop, and ice cream parlor on the ground floor. We have two little parks for children and the entire area is stroller friendly. I only wish they had fresh fruits and veggies at the mini market, but at least they have milk and eggs, etc. Also- the indoor pool and gym aren't quite finished. They say it will open in one month but who knows...

From what you described you will want Amwaj (10 min from city center) or Riffa Views (far from city center). These are the only place on the island where you can actually walk around your neighborhood and have nice outdoor space with sidewalks. Amwaj is a beach community while Riffa Views is a golf community. If you choose a compound in Saar/Budaiya/Hamala etc... you will be very confined there are no sidewalks or walking paths outside of the compounds. There is a gym you can join in Amwaj and Riffa and they also have a pools. It is also going to be super--super--super HOT and HUMID (120F and 90% humidity) when you arrive. You will not be doing any of these outdoor activities until at least October. The location you choose may also depend on your budget. For 3 Bedrooms in Amwaj (an apartment) you are looking at spending at least $1500 a month a villa will cost $3000-4000 a month.
