I've had good luck with Muffler & Brake on Church St. in New Bedford. They do just about everything...not just mufflers and brakes. They have been honest with me...not selling items or service I don't need. If you drop my name it might get you free wifi in the waiting room...no...wait...they already have that. Seriously...been using them for about 8 years now. They typically don't charge "diagnostic fees" but they do give you an accurate estimate. I have a 2000 Volvo at the end of its life and bought a 2000 Camry to replace it. Also a 2002 truck...so in the same boat as you. Give them a try.
