Searching for a trainer, no clue where to start. Let me begin: I am a horse person. I am very confident in my abilities to teach my horse new things. From what I have...

I'm not even remotely close to you, so can't share any of the good local contacts I've found, but as another horse person who was in the same boat about a year ago, boy do I understand how hard it is to find someone. :( And it's not the same to just read or watch videos of training, no matter how good.
The one bit of advice I've discovered, is that if you're just starting out, read/learn enough to get an idea of what sort of training philosophy you like/don't like and then when you're interviewing people, ask them who *they* like to learn from (and maybe why).
Then you can at least go do a little research on their mentors and see if you agree with their philosophy or think that it will work for your dog.
Good luck!

You're close to Raleigh. Hit up Paws4Ever in Mebane. Maybe an hour away from you? Julie Rice is worth it, though. If not there, try Teamworks. Paws4Ever though - they're amazing! - from the area originally

If you're interested in the humane hierarchy trainer, you can find a [CPDT](http://www.ccpdt.org/) trainer. Also, for higher level obedience stuff, local AKC clubs are usually really helpful for cheaper classes than a private trainer.
