Hey Houston! Can you recommend a decent, cheap eye doctor? I live in the Montrose area and have but marginal means. I also have one pair of broken glasses and a desire...

Try the Optometry school at the University of Houston. They take most insurances, they're freaking cheap if you don't have insurance, and the quality of work is pretty good.

I dunno if you've looked, but I've seen some decent deals on Living Social/Groupon. The only problem with that is that you're usually stuck with a particular location. I snagged a deal for roughly $80 for a complete exam and $210 towards your glasses.

whatever happens, buy your contact lenses online. maybe even your glasses too. but definitely buy your contacts online. 1. figure out your prescription and brand of lenses 2. find a crazy website that has your contacts for very very cheap (i can usually find a website that has up to a 50% discount) 3. go to 1-800 contacts and start a live chat with a online representative 4. ask for a price match 5. profit seriously, you can save so much money on contacts this way

Frost eye clinic at Legacy community health. They are a FQHC and as such you may qualify for a sliding scale payment rate. Great reputation. Full disclosure: I work there in IT.

My friend just opened up an optometry practice near 59 and beltway 8. She's a great person and I know she carries that over to her optometry practice. If you want me to connect you, please PM me.
