Okay, lovely ladies and gents, I need a bit of help! I'm desperately seeking a tailor/seamstress in NYC that can work with vintage pieces but isn't insanely expensive....

Broome St Tailors have been great for me. Exactly the same as what Amy just said- great for mending and small alterations; if you have something very delicate or that needs a major rehaul I would try elsewhere. Mutsumi Gee is an amazing seamstress and knows all about vintage but I'm not sure if she does repairs, etc.

Tailor/cleaners/seamstress/Laundry G&G Chinese Laundry (212)966-9813 G+G on Grand at West Broadway. It's a dry cleaner that happens to do excellent alterations, and yes, they do men's too! All the designers who have boutiques in the Soho neighborhood send their clients there. If you have a Vtg shirt/jkt that is ripped they might be able to patch it. A friend brought in a ripped 20 s silk chiffon dress and they added vintage looking lace panels to repair the ripped areas and made it look like it was all part of the dress (couldn't believe it)...but they are not cheap though.

Try Allure Originals on Etsy. I believe she's in NYC, and she makes gorgeous repros. She may be willing to help.
