We had a great experience with Avant Rental Car last year from Cancun airport. Price was a tad higher than some of the others, however it included all insurances, plus they deliver the car and do all the paperwork in the airport parking lot within 15 minutes or so...you don't have to go back to an office for an hour and be subjected to timeshare sales or up-sold like at many of the other car places. Plus, they don't take a huge hold on your credit card which is nice. We had a great experience with them and will definitely use them again.

You are required by law to accept the third party liability insurance. The rest of it you can decline. Your credit card insurance will work for the rest. If you accept any other insurance from them, your credit card will not cover any of it. To those two cities just either take the scheduled bus ADO or stand at a bus stop waiting for the next combi or short run bus to pick you up. Have some peso coins in your pocket to pay the fare. If you need a car just buy a $2000 old Honda or Toyota and drive down, then stay up to 6 months. P.S. Take the ADO shuttle from Cancun airport to the bus station and from there get the next bus to Akumal, Tulum. Then later head back to the bus station and if the scheduled ones don't run during your desired time, get on a second class bus or ask around to find a combi going your way.
