My beginner problems with video courses of yoga Hello everyone.
Recently got interested into yoga. Bought a mat, but here is the problem i am facing.

Adriene has videos specifically for beginners. That’s what I started with.

Seconding Adriene's [Foundations of Yoga series](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLui6Eyny-UzyugJTu3l1YFL0k3nGIlaz9), in which she dedicates an entire video to reach pose.
Which of Adriene's 30 day series are you doing? She's done one every January for the past 4 years and some are more beginner-friendly than others. I started with [the first 30 Days of Yoga](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLui6Eyny-UzwxbWCWDbTzEwsZnnROBTIL), but I actually think [Yoga Revolution](https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLui6Eyny-Uzzl1q-GskVUZp6Fk8nIr9rK) is more beginner-friendly.
A couple more suggestions:
- Ignore the words you don't understand. It took me months before I paid any attention to the Sanskrit terms, and Adriene is REALLY good about describing the movement so you don't NEED to know the terms to know how to move.
- Turn the YouTube video speed down. The voice will drag out and sound distorted, but if you can look past that it will actually slow things down for you.
- Do you have a mobile device you could watch the videos on? I prefer to put the video on my phone and place my phone at the top corner of my mat. That way, I have to look down (which you're often doing anyway in yoga) to see the video instead of craning your neck to the TV, and you could move it around your mat if you needed to.

I didn’t click with Adrienne. I love Allie. She has a [30 yoga poses tutorial for beginners](https://m.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLUTRhGw66 uD5ER7Z56 a8IP66 kfXiC9 yRt).
I've been using an app called Down Dog which has video instruction, which I think is amazing! You can change the pace of the poses and it had different levels of difficulty to get the basics down before trying anything harder.

I didn't like Adriene's style, so I started watching Erin Motz on youtube. She has a 30 day yoga challenge that is perfection. She explains everything in a very relatable way and gives you more time to get into position. She's also so bright and cheery

Also search for other beginner yoga videos on YouTube. I know many people love Adriene, but I don't click with her.

Sure youll miss some poses as you start out but so what? It would probably happen in a class as well, youll get more and more poses as you do it more often until one day you can do them all, even the one where you first saw it and thought "Wait wtf, thats a human body doing that?"

It's great that you are finding your way to yoga. Are you aware of [yogaglo.com](https://yogaglo.com) or yogavibes.com? They offer streaming yoga that you can filter by beginner and by amount of time you have as well as other metrics. Since they have many teachers, you can choose those that you like. Of course I'd first recommend beginners series in a yoga studio where there is more discussion and you can ask questions. As a yoga teacher, I can tell you very fast is neither good nor necessary. You should be able to feel every inch of movement - focusing on every inch of movement of the hands/arms or legs in a transition will build strength and boost concentration. Enjoy!

There’s many issues that beginners face: flexibility, speed, vocabulary, etc. Take the advice from others in this feed and find an instructor and style that you are interested in exploring further. Look at it this way: experts in power vinyasa are typically not experts at Iyengar alignment and modifications, or yin yoga, or vedantic meditation. Find the field that calls to you, then find an instructor you resonate with. Then you’ll find the optimal growth trajectory you’re looking for.

I might just recommend that you learn some of the key yoga terms and "shapes" -Table top (knees under hips on ground, palms under shoulders). -> cat/cow -DownDog/Plank/Updog -lunge/side lunge/ wide leg forward fold I'd say those are some basic groups to look online so when you hear it in a video you already know the basic shape of your body.

Doyogawithme.com has videos of how to do individual poses, so you can learn the poses separately before trying to do a whole routine

Happily there's plenty of good yoga on the internet. I work for YogaVibes.com so I'm most familiar with our library. Grab a free trial and try Sarah Faircloth's beginner series. We've got hundreds of beginner videos, but I think her style will be particularly good for what you're trying to do. You can also mix it up with some Yin classes as another poster recommended. I hope you enjoy your practice!

Head to YouTube and type in "Yoga with Adriene"

If you are looking for proprioception-enhancement through yoga, I'd recommend a yin class. Yin is all about diving deep into connective tissue with long, deep, static stretches and postures, which really makes you explore your muscles in connection with your breath. Its deceptively difficult, but amazing. I'm sorry I don't know of any particular ones online or via video, but looking for a "yin" style might point you in the right direction. Good luck :)
Anyone know a good yoga instructor in west kendall?

Gabriel Axel
Gabriel A. replied:
Hey! I am not familiar with studios in west kendall. There is one called CORPO YOGA Studio in Dadeland Station that might be good to look at. Other than that, Just OM Yoga Studio and Green Monkey in South Miami have good instructors. Jason Lawner (Jason Lawner Yoga) at Green Monkey SoMi is a blast.
