Can anyone recommend Turkish restaurant that serves gyro sandwiches that are cooked on gyro machine (turn around type). Thank you.
Neel S. replied:
I've been to Koy Turkish Grill on Summerhill Road multiple times and never had a bad meal there. Pretty sure they have the rotating spit as well.
Charles W. replied:
I know the is a Turkish restaurant in the Stop N Shop in East Brunswick on Summerhill Rd
Cengiz A. replied:
Charles Williams that is the resturant called Koy (means villiage in Turkish) Grill. By the way, not every meat on large skewer and turns next to the fire (electric or gas grill which is perpendicular) for cooking means a good Doner or gyro. Greeks usually do it with ground beef. In fact, there is a Greek company in Chicago shipping Greek resturants and diners as frozen. Good Doner must take sometime to prepare due to marinating a good chunk of meat and fat which are layered. It cannot be a mass production like with ground beef. Fat drizzeles down during the cooking next to the fire. Eat that in Greek place and Turkish resturant (even somewhat authentic), you will see the difference in taste. There is a place in Freehold Mall called Gyro Place. The owner is a Turk. He is also using that Greek frozen thing called gyro from Chicago. I never eat that. His shish kebab is very good. We order that. Time to time he gives me a slice or two ground beef gyro with it.
Taverna Ouzo. Applegarth Road. You can see the spits in the kitchen from the dining room. Awesome gyros and souvlaki.

Jimmys Greek on Summerhill Rd is very good. Tried their platter last night and was very good. The one on Applegarth is overpriced and not as good (my opinion of course).
