I disagree. "Testing" is basic defect detection, validating that the app does what it's supposed to do. "Quality Control" is testing plus reacting to issues that occur post-deployment, or defect regression. "Quality Assurance" is quality control plus validation of the processes, requirements as well as additional issues such as performance. The focus becomes defect prevention. This progression gets confused at a lot of organizations, and leads to the blurring of roles (and rates) such as you're seeing, Kiran.

Mike, that was sort of my point. Testing is only the beginning of the process, and is insufficient by itself to prevent error. Glenn Myers (1969): "Testing is the process of exercising the system with the intent of finding errors"
