Either way, definitely call the city first. If it is on city property they will evaluate and take care of it. If it's not, you still have to have them take a look to give you permission to cut it down. A great tree cutter whom we just used is Sacha Viau (514) 688-4474. If you're in DDO, you call Public Works. 514-684-1034. They will send an inspector and tell you if the tree needs to come down or can be braced. If it's a certain distance to the street, it may be their tree and they will cover the fee. If not, they issue you a permit. (you need one even to just trim branches). The permit is free.

I just saw this about a tree service that went out when called that a 4 mth old kitten got scared and got stuck in a tree. This was the post from Gerdys Rescue "One of the exhibitors of cats there had someone open a cat cage to have a closer look at a kitten, the 4 month old kitten panicked, and ran up a tall tree and was too terrified to come down. A couple of people said they called both the Fire Dept and the Police to no avail, they'd not help the kitten. Well we stayed til the last tho it was not our animal. Finally someone got the idea to try a tree trimming service, in desperation. Well folks, they DID come, put up a tall ladder and the fella climbed up and rescued the kitten! If you live in Beaconsfield and need work done to trim your overgrown trees, please consider calling THIS animal compassionate company! They saved this wee kittens life, the Pet Fair was over and it would have been a sad story but for ULTIME Tree Service with a huge heart! They deserve a huge pat on the back from us animal lovers!
