Cheers Daz . A lot of business owners don't actually know this regulation is law, and only find out when it's too late, so don't to be too alarmed that you didn't know about it and haven't carried it out as I find this happens more often than not. Workp lace regulations state that any electricial item that plugs in must be "tested and tagged" to ensure electrical safety, and is usually done so every year. This has been law since 2003, and AS/NZS 3760 is used as the minimum standard of testing by Worksafe and most insurance companies. Risking not complying with the regulations leaves you open to issues if and when something becomes electrically live. This is not only an issue if Worksafe become involved, but if a fire is started due to the same, insurance companies will not honour any claim. To clarify a few comments made here, "just say we did" won't work, and will end up with more problems. The work must be completed by trained and qualified people only, and this will be checked. More than a "receipt" is needed. All items tested must be logged and a copy of this shown to Worksafe. A "Certificate of Compliance" must also be presented to say all items tested meet the standard. If you use a tester who does not supply these documents, you will still not comply. Just "looking at them" is not testing them. They must be tested to a range of tests on proper test and tag certified equipment that tests insulation breakdown, earth quality, etc. Any tester who doesn't have this equipment is not doing the required tests as per the regulations. Doing a short course is only part of it if you decide to do your own, which you are entitled too. The mentioned equipment costs approximately $7000 to do the work correctly, so obviously that is cost prohibitive for small businesses. I run my own company, local to you, and am happy to help you out. I charge less than another company mentioned here, and I supply all documents on completion that will satisfy Worksafe and your insurance company. My website is www.deluxeappliancetesting.com.au or give me a call on 0407 327 726. Hope this helps.
