Thought I'd check in with my running friends on whether anyone has had Achilles surgery by an orthopedist in the Morristown area. I've already had chipping of...

Lou, you are in the deep end of the pool with this stuff, sorry to say. Many chronic Achilles tendon problems, like those I have had on and off for years, are tendonosis, which is a bulge of scar tissue in the middle of the tendon. I was advised that surgery in that area of the tendon was almost never done because it could hurt more than help. Vibration to loosen the scar tissue and resistance training to build new collagen fibrils were recommended to me. Your case and injury site sound different but I would want a second opinion. I would ask Brian Walsh for a reco but not necessarily restrict myself to our area of NJ. All the best. This too shall pass. Dick

Summit Medical Group returned my call from Wednesday and said Dr Hurley wasn't foot (by now I knew that) but that Dr Shindle was the person... I have an appointment with him for next Thursday... at least for 1 st opinion. I probably will contact Dr Goldberger at Tri-County or one of the other recommendations I received from you.. Since I have real problems with both heels, I would like to stay local as there may be many visits and possible surgeries. I appreciate the recommendations and healing wishes from all of you.

Tri-County Orthopedics - 160 E. Hanover, Morristown (973) 538-2334 -- when you call tell them you have a shoulder issue and they will assign you to a specialist.....they are very good!
Debbie H. replied:
Call The Orthopedic Institute of New Jersey. They will assign someone based on your need. I've been very happy with everyone I've seen there. They have an office in Towne Center (4 th floor).
