Salamonie has the biggest lake around here and it's only 45 minutes away. They have some great primitive campsites with electric and several spots that are right on the water. The lake is around 3,000 acres and it has a pretty large man made beach area too. Fishing is pretty good and it has all of the amenities that you would want. http://www.in.gov/dnr/parklake/2952.htm

Timberline Campground in Chesterfield is very close to Mounds State Park. Timberline has a small lake for fishing, with a sand beach area marked off, and the river runs thru as well. Playground area, walking and bike path, pond with turtles and frogs everywhere. Quieter place with plenty of primitive spots set into the wooded area surrounding the lake. Can camp back in the woods as well, along the river, there is a walking bridge and island where the river splits thru the woods. Can go to Mounds for play and pool during the day if a pool is necessary.

The Girl Scouts bought the property sometime in the late 40's or early 50's and was named Camp Tanglewood. it was a two story wood frame building with a large wrap-around porch. The scout troop my mother led camped there many times. That is where I learned how to make a "sit-upon, tin can burner and make a sleeping bag out of blankets."

Jennifer Cole This is the building from the back. It was named after Ella Keher, its founder, and it opened in 1924. Mrs. Keher is said to be responsible for saving more than 3000 lives with her facility. Initially, Mrs. Keher wanted some land northwest of town to open the TB hospital, but the acreage was spoken for and became Grandview Golf Course. She was offered the land at the end of 10 th Street which had been used "The Pest House" where persons with infectious diseases were sent.

That's what I was going to say, Mike Detienne. I think it stood where Camp Tanglewood is now.
