Does anyone know of a good place to get an oil change that won't try and pull one over on me? I need an oil change and maybe some work done on an older car but money is...

Mechanic here.
The most common complaint towards the industry seems to be " I took my car in for this but now they say it needs.....".
Emphasis always on the "needs".
Typically if the car is older it is going to need something outside of what you brought it there for. Now that could either be maintenance or something has actually failed. A good service writer should be able to communicate why the repairs are being suggested.
Yet you never hear someone say "I brought my car in the other day and it turns out my ball joints were loose and I should plan on replacing the timing belt soon." It's always "they are saying it needs all this stuff!"
Also, at the quick oil change places there is a huge demand placed on the employees to up sell because it turns out there is no money to be made just changing oil.

I go to [Ronda Auto](http://www.rondaautocenters.com/), they do a full service oil change and I pay $28. I would recommend making an appointment, they're usually pretty busy!

Just about anywhere that's not a quick lube or Borgman. You have an older car. At some point you have to accept it needs work and honest shops are not trying to "hustle" you.

Go to Quality Auto Service on Monroe. It's downtown. A standard oil change is about **$13**. First time I went there I took a car with a known bad (nonessential) sensor, which was throwing a check engine light, just to test them for the upsell. Saw them checking the code. Nobody said a word about it to me. Been taking my cars there for changes ever since.

I have been just taking mine to the dealership. It's fairly priced and I know that I'm getting everything done by the manufactures recommendations by people who deal exclusively with that manufacture. It actually cost me less to get my oil changed at the dealer than it did at Valvoline and I don't trust Valvoline very much.
