Does anyone know of a GOOD bakery down here?.We came from NY and the bakeries were so good.
Daniel S. replied:
Benjamins Bakery in uptown Surfside Beach. If you're looking for something special, ask Lee Zulanch about it! Try their great coffee too!

Any one that thinks Coccadotts is an actual Bakery clearly has never been to a real bakery. Since your looking for the best we have around her try Toffinos in Market Common for Italian stuff. Their Rum and Anise soaked Sponge is very good.Bread is good. They have lobster Tails, cookies and such. NY Bagles and Bakery use to be passable but I have not been there in a long time, mainly because they never had any thing after 11 am left to sell. Big Apple Bagels in Surfside is better than most around. Benjamin's Bagels are too soft and they plastic bag them which compounds the problem. Big Apple paper bags them so they stay crusty somewhat. Pawleys Island Bakery is a joke Everytime I go all they seem to have is cupcakes and scones . In all the bakeries I worked at in Ny very rarely did we ever have cupcakes, down here it seems to be a big seller. Most have a few items but mostly they specialize in one particular item. Not a decent coffee cake or Danish for miles. Been here 30 years, I learned to live without. I just make my own.

I found a few places here that sell what I miss in NY. Kielbasi at Pulaski's deli, JJ Butcher in Murrells Inlet and Knishes at Lowes Food.
Chris B. replied:
Benjamin's is mostly bagels & bread but it's our favorite. Lowe's food on 707 has a good bakery. also, Fresh Market in Pawleus island.

Kudzu Bakery in Pawleys Island isn’t bad but very limited choice. There is nothing like a northern Bakery. One of the things you can’t find here. Side note- I love it here but I do miss northern style bakeries.
