thanks - the casing was cracked and it was installed very poorly as well. no putty around the drain mount, and the electrical was poorly connected. a bad DIY job, and bad timing. but robert dibiasio (dibiasio enterprises) was here in a half hour - removed the old one, went to home depot just before closing time to get a replacement, came back and installed it, and got it working well.
