The dog I'm watching had an accident today. I need a recommendation for residential carpet cleaning (in New Bern).

^^Groans, and looks sad at Mr. Overman's comment. Hit Angie's List. You're going to want to talk shop with these folks, first. If it's urine, depending on the size of the accident, they may need to flush the pad. There are tools designed specifically for that, and they'll basically pour the cleaner/odor counteractant into the carpet and pad in quantities large enough to soak pad, so odor doesn't come back. You're going to want to listen for words like "Bio-enzymatic cleaners" as they're talking. Good luck.

Mr. Overman, I clean carpet for a living, and take great pride in what I do. The thought of someone taking some sort of high pH carpet cleaner off the shelf, and rubbing it in with a sponge, without flushing it... If it's nylon, you'll strip the stainguard that's built in to the fiber. If it's wool, there's a possibility you'll cause full on, physical damage to the carpet, not to mention browning it. You can throw a nuclear grenade at poly carpet and it won't hurt it, but whatever it is, you're leaving gunk in the carpet that will attract dirt, and 3 months from now, that spot will be dirtier than the rest of the carpet and look horrible. http://www.questfloorcare.com/carpet-cleaning/imagine-youre-taking-a-shower/
