Todd Parr's The Goodbye Book is the best nonspecific (not a pet, not a grandparent--anyone) and non-religious book on death I've found. I love it for its versatility (I adore Ida Always "more," but for more specific situations). It acknowledges all the different ways you might feel or not feel--no pressure to have certain feelings about the death. It works as well for sudden goodbyes as for slow ones.

Movement songs are great at any age, but the older children enjoy the scouting chants.

We tied ours in with a book signing by an author who wrote a book from a Teddy Bear's point of view (Kris Ball), so that when the kids came Sat. morning to pick them up, they got to meet the author and have donuts and juice with the author teddy bear!
