Ordering fabric online I’m planning on making a shirt, but the local fabric stores have quite limited selections. Any recommendations for places to order quality...
Sadvoric replied:
My go-tos are Fabric.com, Fabric Wholesale Direct, and Etsy. My favorite Etsy shop for fabric is Fibers to Fabric. Ebay you need to be careful on, but can also work. Check Etsy for wool, or google what specific kind of wool you’re going for.

Hi, what country are you based? I can recommend you Dutch stores, but the shipping could be costly depending on where you live ;)

I order from [Vogue Fabrics](https://www.voguefabricsstore.com/) . Their prices are good, the selection is good and the quality is excellent. Shipping rates are low too. They are a real shop with real people and will answer your questions with real sewing knowledge. PS I think there’s currently a sale on wool suiting.

I would add [FabricMartFabrics.com](https://FabricMartFabrics.com) and [DenverFabrics.com](https://DenverFabrics.com). Unfortunately you may be out of luck with wool until the Fall. (At least, I've found this to be so).

Etsy! I’ve found if you find a fabric you like elsewhere on the internet, you can find it on Etsy a dollar or two cheaper a yard. * this may just be for quilting fabrics, I don’t sew much outside of that world
Mallory asks: Where is a good fabric store for costume making it must have leather?
Can anyone help?
Denise O. replied:
Hi Mallory: Depends on the quality of leather you desire. Colorado Fabrics in Littleton may carry some leather, but I know they have faux leather. I have not seen leather in any of the other Colorado fabric stores. Online, you can get some very good leather at GorgeousFabrics.com, FabricMartFabrics.com, MoodFabrics.com, HartsFabric.com, NYFashionCenterFabrics.com, DenverFabrics.com and etc. the only thing is the hides available come and go regularly at these sites; so, one site might not always have leather hide inventory. I have also checked out, but never bought from, FashionLeather.com . I Hope this helps. Are you making costumes for an event? The Denver Chapter of ASG is thinking about starting a group especially for those sewing costumes. Would you be interested? Contact me at President.ASGDenver@aol.com

Annmarie A. replied:
Dana, I have an assortment of buttons that you'd be welcome to sift through. I'll be in my studio at 5030 B'way Suite 607 tomorrow afternoon from 2:30 to 4 pm, if you'd like to stop by. When I go button shopping for the sweaters I knit, I also head for Tender Buttons or Knitty City. Tender Buttons is button heaven.:)

If you can't make it tomorrow, I'll be there again on Wedsnesday. You can send me an email at theriverknitter@gmail.com :)

Where can I find Cordura in Manhattan? Let's try once more, as last time it was unclear I wanted to buy it in person...
Does anyone know where I can find Cordura fabric...
justasque replied:
I asked something similar a while back, with no luck... Much of the higher end fabric in the US that is sold to home sewists tends to be remnants or leftovers from local clothing manufacturers. The tech stuff all seems to come from the Pacific Northwest. That said, Spandex House carries stretchy things like Supplex, power mesh, and an increasing amount of breathable wicking athletic fabrics. I have seen a wee bit of outerwear fabric at Mood but it is hit and miss, and never Cordura or X-pac. Here’s hoping there is somewhere I haven’t heard of that stocks tech fabric!
Smcavitt replied:
Can you reach out to Seattle Fabrics or RSBTR and ask for samples? I know its not in person but they can send swatches of a bunch of different fabrics for a small fee and then you can feel it before putting in a bigger order? (Sorry not from NY but what I've done in the past for fabric before a build)
Parka_boy replied:
Out of curiosity which Xpac did you buy? Debating on cordura v. Xpac for a project
attic_sardines replied:
Have you been to Mood and neighboring fabric stores in the garment district in Midtown? That will be your best bet. I bought some technical fabrics at Mood a few weeks ago and they have a decent collection but I'm not sure if I saw Cordura. This is a great list that give some information about the different fabric stores in NYC. Maybe call up some of the ones that do nylon and polys.
