Good quality leather backpack I'm looking for a high quality leather backpack or messenger bag for school. Are there any particular brands that you guys would recommend...

Ruitertassen replied:
Hi!
I assume you will need to be able to carry books, few personal belongings and maybe a laptop, charger etc?
I also assume you want it to look original and to be reliable, solidity wise. The links I provide are to the backpacks sections of each brand directly.
Here's some suggestions of European brands that you might not have come across yet.
* I like [Hard-Graft](https://hardgraft.us/#filter=.cat-bags.subcat-backpack) for the originality of their design. Their models have a handle which can be surprisingly useful for a backpack. They're from England.
* Then different style and material with [Bleu de Chauffe](http://www.bleu-de-chauffe.com/en/men/126-coursier-backpack-waxy-kakipain-brule.html), from France.
Might seem not expensive enough...but it's still very good quality, you might decide to buy 2 affordable, yet sturdy, bags instead of one ;)
* Then Ruitertassen of course, from Belgium.
The backpacks are not yet online on the US shop so here's the link to the [backpacks](http://www.ruitertassen.fr/sacs-a-dos) on the French shop.
I'm the advisor for the brand, so I know them very well. I personally use the "éclaireur" very often. It is incredibly reliable, interesting leather, spacious etc. Again, original designs, durable etc.
Let me know if you have any questions!

Can anyone suggest a good place to buy cheap, soft, faux leather by the yard? I'm looking for the soft, thin leather - not the thick vinyl stuff. Thanks!!
Rachel U. replied:
Suede fabric at any fabric store, or Tandy Leather has a bin of real leather suede, usually dyed black.
Jessica S. replied:
If you go to Fabric.com and search 'leather' then click on 'Apparel and Fashion Fabrics' at the top left, those fabrics will be lighter weight. I like the 'Bijoux' ones, they have a nice texture and several colors: https://www.fabric.com/buy/fd-386/bijoux-faux-leather-textured-brown I've also used the Cordova vinyl if you want something cheaper, it has a felt backing, but it is flexible:https://www.fabric.com/buy/cy-423/cordoba-vinyl-brown
Brendan M. replied:
You want to look for anything that says faux "garment" leather. Its going to be lighter than upholstery fabric but like all faux leathers its going to have some stiffness. Joann Fabrics has only one or two options. Your best bet is probably some kind of specialty fabric store like Mood Fabrics (www.moodfabrics.com). All other faux leather that you're gonna find is more than likely going to be designed for upholstery.

Yesterday my Google ninja skills led me to one Wista repair and parts person who unfortunately passed away I think in 2012 but his inventory of parts were bought by this other company in NYC that is apparently the main U.S. authorized service center for both Wista and Linhof. I'm going to stop in at their location in the coming weeks to see if I can get the handle and a few other parts I need. They seem to be the best remaining source here in the U.S. Nippon Photoclinic, Inc. 920 Broadway, Suite 705, New York, NY 10010 212 982-3177 or 212 736-4663http://nipponphotoclinic.com
